Introduction

Rap Music first caught K-Phlow’s attention in the early 90’s with the sounds of artistes such as Cypress Hill and NWA. He started DJing at the age of 17 in 2000, when he enrolled into Playaz Universe, Malaysia's first ever DJ school. After completing the course, he stayed on and enrolled for the advanced/professional courses offered there.

Currently, he is spinning in various clubs in Penang. Under the watchful and skillful eye of accomplished Techno DJ/Producer and founder of the school, Suresh Nelson, DJ K-Phlow found his voyage into musicology fueled by the creative senses that inspired him as he moved through a collective of Rap and RnB genres, from Urban to Commercialized sound of the music today.

A year past as his thriving interest with Rap Music developed before K-Phlow was ready to unleash the fruits of his labour unto the Malaysian clubbing republic. In 2001, K-Phlow made his first showcase at Kuala Lumpur’s Bukit Bintang infamous and thriving after hours sports bar, HobnoB 21. His maturing from being a young apprentice to establishing himself as a genuine talent to be reckoned with. became swiftly apparent when he was offered a weekly residency a mere two months after his initial pro-bono jamming for the bar.

From here on it was a dizzying ride, where K-Phlow put on many hats, juggling his task as a DJ while promoting club nights to greater success through various marketing initiatives, from a steady roster of rotating talent to relationship management with his fans, sometimes silently from the behind the decks, through the voice of his music.

K-Phlow career took another swift leap with the hottest penang club called Chill Out at the trendy Gurney Drive Penang, the successor to the Gurney Hotel. Now escalated to the ranks of spinning in a mainstream club, K-Phlow attacked the decks from the get go with the same relentless passion and enthusiasm he did as he began his voyage into music.

As Chill Out courted K-Phlow to become a regular staple of its’ club night menu, K-Phlow found himself thrown with another unique opportunity to expand his musical horizons. Roxbury Club favoured a strong musical procedure, which clearly matched the club and pushed K-Phlow to transition his sounds from Rap into a broader base of OL-Skool and Retro grinds.

The rest, as they say, is history. Fast forward to the now, his continuing stint at Roxbury has seen K-Phlow hosting the lead set for the club’s important Friday and Saturday nights, in addition, he played in GLO Dance Club, the biggest club in Penang and have shared decks with both local and international acts. K-Phlow hosted numerous shows and gain his emcee capability instead of just dj’ing.

Today, K-Phlow is no longer the young amateur waiting for initiation into the big leagues, instead he has matured into the role as one of Penang leading figures as the voice of the next generation in the hip hop music scene.
